2023 - 33
– Weekly
- Registered for my first half-marathon ballot. I hope I get in. I’ll keep training regardless.
- Three freelance projects fell through this week - 2 web dev, 1 photo. It feels like people only care about my work when they can get it for free. Friendly as these prospect may be, social validation and apologies don’t pay the bills.
- The freelance prospects constantly crumbling has made me refocus on my singular goal – getting a full-time remote developer position. I’m building an Airbnb clone now. Onwards and upwards.
- Visiting Nanning this week by train. I’m excited to eat lao you fen. We also plan to visit Guilin. Rice noods. Many noods. I plan to come back 10 pounds heavier.
- I had dinner with a entrepreneur / photographer I admire. She reaffirmed everything about the Hong Kong photography / influencer market that I found out the hard way – tons of deceit, fake followers and a bargain mentality. This is from large scale corporations, down to small scale influencers. I’m happy to be getting out…but maybe I never was “in it” in the first place. Either way, good riddance.
- Random strangers on LinkedIn that become friends because of code. A slice of Silicon Valley, digitally. I missed this energy. What a kind reminder of where I really belong. With the nerds, because I am one.
- In Nanning now with the Yeungs - the true definition of family without expectations. Eating mei fen. Spending time with family. Life is simple. And it is.
