Relentless by Tim Grover

I was first introduced to this book by watching a YouTube video about UFC fighter Jon “Bones” Jones. Arguably one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, Jones was reading the book in preparation to defend his championship title.

Grover has trained Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryan, Dwayne Wade and many other iconic superstar athletes. This book is primarily mentally motivational with a lot of “duh” anecdotes (i.e. don’t give up, trust few people, thrive on pressure).

Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe a “guru” if they don’t have the experience to back it up. Grover clearly has the experience.

Some key takeaways:

  1. Embrace your "dark side" -- all sides of who you are and that allow you to keep your competitive spirit. Lean into those desires that help you win.
  2. Learn everything you can about what you want to be great in. Earn the right to be "that asshole" that gets shit done. It's on you.
  3. You don't compete with anyone. They compete with you.
  4. Done. Next.
